- This was a couples trip, pre-kids, so there are no kid logistics to fake. Cabo Azul is family-shaped if you go with the girls; La Ventana is a wind-sport town and a longer haul.
- Where we stayed
- Cabo Azul Resort in San José del Cabo (two-bedroom villa, ~$447 / 33,000 points), then Casa Duna up in La Ventana with two other couples.
- The non-negotiable
- Sunset dinner at Sunset Mona Lisa on the cliffs, then walk across the road to The Cape's rooftop bar. Book the pre-sunset table.
- What we'd skip
- Chasing dinner reservations all over the peninsula. We held slots at El Farallon and Don Manuel's out at Pedregal and let them go: 40 minutes of driving each way we didn't miss.
- Best season
- April. Dry, warm, the desert light doing its thing before the summer heat lands.

- American flights ran ~100,795 points round-trip, and the Cabo Azul villa came to 33,000 points a night. Both booked through Chase Travel.

A note we owe you up front: this was a before-the-kids trip, just us and two other couples, so there’s no kid-logistics section to fake. What Cabo gave us was the version of the peninsula you plan around long dinners instead of nap schedules: desert running straight into ocean, and light that makes both look better than they have any right to.
The two days we’d copy
We based the first stretch at Cabo Azul in San José del Cabo, about 22 minutes from the airport. Landed, checked into a two-bedroom villa, ate lunch on property, and had two signature massages booked at the resort’s Paz Spa by two o’clock. That’s the whole first day, and we’d do it again.
Dinner is where Cabo tries to make you drive. We looked at El Farallon and Don Manuel’s out at the Resort at Pedregal (both good, both 40 minutes each way) and picked the closer, better call.

Day two was Flora Farms, the working organic farm 11 minutes inland where you eat what’s growing around you. Reserve lunch ahead; it books out. Then we pointed the rental north.
The La Ventana half
From San José we drove roughly two hours up Highway 1 toward La Paz to Casa Duna in La Ventana, a walled house we split three couples’ worth of nights in, around $183 a couple. The drive is real: past Los Barriles, a fruit stop in San Bartolo, then a turnoff onto sand roads where the printed directions genuinely say “drive around the cactus in the middle of the road.” La Ventana is a windsurf-and-kite town, quiet and off the resort grid.
That’s the honest shape of it. Cabo is the report we’d most like to rewrite someday with two more in the frame. But as the trip it actually was, the cliff dinner and the drive north are the parts we’d hand you first.
